Statement: mogelijke WK-deelname Oranjeheren

Statement:

Het Nederlands Herenteam is, vanwege de 17de plaats op het EK2020, als derde reserve aangewezen voor het WK2021. Het wereldkampioenschap wordt van 13 t/m 31 januari gehouden in Egypte. Gisteren hebben Tsjechië en de Verenigde Staten zich vanwege Coronabesmettingen teruggetrokken voor het eindtoernooi. Macedonië en Zwitserland nemen hun plaats in. Nederland is nu eerste reserve. Mocht er nog één land zijn dat zich terugtrekt, is Nederland bereid om deel te nemen aan het WK.

“We zijn bereid om deel te nemen als we in aanmerking komen. Onze spelers zijn op de hoogte en staan te springen om in actie te kunnen komen. Wanneer we een seintje krijgen van de IHF gaan we alles in werking stellen. We wachten de officiële berichtgeving van de IHF af”, aldus technisch directeur Monique Tijsterman.

English Statement:

The Dutch Men’s National handball team was appointed 3rd reserve based on its 17th place finish at the European Championship 2020. The World Championship (WC) is being held in Egypt from 13 to 31 of January. Yesterday both the Czech and US national teams have withdrawn their entry for the tournament due to COVID-19 contaminations. Macedonia and Switzerland have taken their place in the tournament. As a result, The Netherlands is now next in line. Should another team withdraw then Dutch team is prepared to participate in the WC.

“We are prepared to travel to Egypt. Our players are informed and excited for the opportunity to compete at this stage when called upon. We will set everything in motion when the IHF contacts us. For now, we await the formal information from IHF.” according to Monique Tijsterman, Technical Director.
